Hi there, I’m Nicole Sands

I’m a photographer based in Mammoth Lakes, California, where the mountains shape so much of how I see and experience the world. When I’m behind the camera, I take photos to hold onto moments — not just how something looks, but how it feels to be there. The laughter between friends, the quiet in-between moments, the feeling of standing somewhere beautiful with someone you love.

Long after a moment has passed, we return to photographs to relive the experience. Whether it’s an intimate elopement in the mountains, a surprise proposal, a community event, or a backcountry adventure. My goal is always the same — to create images that feel timeless, emotional, and alive.

When I’m Not Creating

Nicole Sands, owner of Sierra Summit Photography. Rock climbing in Kalymnos Greece in December. In the Grand Grotta Climbing area.

Most days, you can find me climbing, snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, or planning my next adventure somewhere new. Being outside is where I feel most grounded — it’s where I reset, spend time with my dogs, and stay connected to the people and places that matter most. My partner and I travel often, usually on rock climbing trips or vacations built around what we love, allowing us to experience new places all over the world in a really intentional way.

It’s in these moments outside — away from everything else — that I feel most like myself. I slow down, clear my head, and come back to what matters most: the people I share life with, the places I love, and the moments we create along the way. Not every experience has to be extraordinary to matter — sometimes the smallest ones change everything.

No adventure is too big; no idea is too far out there. If it matters to you, I’m already invested.
